MFA (Multi-Factor-Authentication) or 2FA (2-Factor-Authentication) is a way to increase security to the accounts you sign into. It adds an additional layer of security by requiring sign on with the regular username and password, and an additional verification in the form of a call to a phone number, an SMS text to a phone number, or approval from a configured authentication app on a device.
After MFA has been enabled on your Microsoft account, the first step is to log into your work Microsoft office account. Open your web browser such as Google Chrome or Firefox and navigate to this site here:

You may be greeted by a Microsoft
sign in page. Upon signing into your account, you should get a message that
says Microsoft requires more information to sign in. This is where we will set
up 2 Factor Authentication.
Click on the Next button. On the next page, this is where you will choose your preferred method to set up MFA for your account. Choose your preferred method in the dropdown box highlighted below. For steps on each method continue reading below.
With this method, you will use an external application on your mobile device to authenticate your sign in. Or, you can have it appear as a phone notification to approve.
a. FOR IOS: Open the Apple App Store and search for Microsoft Authenticator. Install the application to your device.
Microsoft Authenticator: https://apps.apple.com/ca/app/microsoft-authenticator/id983156458
b. FOR ANDROID: Open the Google Play Store and search for Microsoft Authenticator. Install the application on your device.
Microsoft Authenticator: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.azure.authenticator&hl=en_CA&gl=US
Once you have the application installed on your device, you can choose on the prompt whether you would like to accept the authentication in a notification, or whether you would prefer to type in a new randomly generated code from the Microsoft Authenticator app each time.
Click “Set Up” on the More Information Required screen. A QR
code will generate, and you will need to scan it with the Microsoft
Authenticator app. In the Authenticator app, select the “+” sign to add your
account.
Choose “work or school account” on the “what account are you using?” page. Allow the application to use your camera and move the viewfinder over to scan the QR code. Click “Got it” when finished.
You should now see a string of numbers with a timer next to
it like this:
This
is how you will sign in using the app when prompted for a MFA code. If you have
chosen to have it as a notification, the app will allow you to accept the
authentication from a notification on your phone like so:
1. Refer back to step 2, and change the drop down menu to “Authentication phone” as the authentication method.
2. Enter the country for the country code, and then your 10 digit phone number (no spaces, +, or -)
3. Click next. Enter the MFA code that was sent to your phone
4. Click on done. The next time Microsoft requires you to sign in with MFA it will be set to your mobile device.
1. Refer back to step 2, and change the drop down menu to “Authentication phone” as the authentication method.
2. Enter the country for the country code, and then your 10 digit phone number (no spaces, +, or -)
3. Click next. Answer the authorization phone call from Microsoft when the call comes in. Press the pound key (#) to accept the verification and sign in.
4. Click on done. The next time Microsoft requires you to sign in with MFA it will be set to your mobile device.
5. Now try opening up your Microsoft applications like Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook. Particularly, open OneDrive in your browser when you are in Microsoft office homepage (refer to step 1), to ensure that MFA has not affected your OneDrive syncing abilities. Make sure you open Microsoft teams as well. Once you have signed in via Multi-Factor, the device should be trusted. You may be prompted to sign in with MFA on each new device logged in with that Microsoft account.
6. Finished! Your account has now been set up with MFA.
